How To Make Bulky Sweaters More Flattering

6:07 PM

As a personal stylist one of the questions that I get asked the most is "how do I make my sweater more flattering and less bulky?". Well first of all, sweaters aren't necessarily meant to be sexy. They are supposed to keep you warm and cozy throughout the cold winter... but there are a few little hacks that can help you look slimmer.

Keep The Bottom Straight
When you're wearing a bulky or orversized top you should ALWAYS  keep your bottom half more fitted. When you pair a bulky top with bulky bottoms you loose your shape, and end up looking like you gained twenty pounds! You can opt for a pencil skirt instead of a skater skirt, skinny or straight jeans instead of flares, or slim trousers instead of culottes. This little piece of advice can take you outfit from frumpy to chic in seconds!

 Half Tuck
I usually like to pair my clients sweaters with a cute pair of jeans but sometimes the sweater can hit mid thigh which creates the illusion of bigger hips. For a more flattering look, tuck the front of your sweater into your pants, and let the back hang loose to accentuate your waist.

Belt It
This little trick has been around for ages. Throw a belt over your sweater to accentuate your waist, and hold back the excess fabric.

Show Some Skin
When sweater shopping try looking for sweaters that show a little bit of skin. Look for sweaters with a keyhole back, cut out shoulders, or a lace up front. This will add a little bit of sexiness without going overboard.

Add Height
Switching out you flats for heels or heeled booties is a quick and simple fix. Adding height automatically slims your frame.

Wear A Mini Skirt
If you're especially concerned about appearing bulky in your sweater tuck it into a mini skirt, and pair with black tights to slim your legs.

Stay Solid
When buying chunky sweaters you should always make sure its a solid color. Busy patterns will add even more bulk to your outfits and make you appear larger. When buying sweaters with pattern make sure that they are form fitting, and made of thinner material.

Happy styling!
